Doors Open Kincardine runs this weekend
If you want to see inside some beautiful private homes, places of business and points of interest in the Municipality of Kincardine, get a brochure and tour Doors Open Kincardine this weekend.

There are 18 sites on the tour, half of which are new to the event which was last held in 2013.

Joining the standard historic sites, such as the Walker House, the Kincardine Lighthouse, Knox Presbyterian Church in Kincardine, and the Kincardine Legion, are the Kincardine Airport, Tiverton Knox Presbyterian Church, the Nimrod Gun Club, Marwanda Estate near Tiverton, the Lake Huron Learning Centre and the Kinetic Knights Robotics Team 781.

The event runs Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-4 p.m. Most sites are open both days, but some are open only on Saturday. Entrance to all sites is free.

Walker House is command central, so pick up a program there and start touring Kincardine's living heritage of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

KINCARDINE AIRPORT

New to the event, is the Kincardine Municipal Airport, north of the Town of Kincardine on Highway 21. The airport complex occupies 120 acres, overlooking beautiful Lake Huron. It serves as a base for sightseeing, corporate jets, air ambulance services and recreational pilots, some of whom own private hangars on the airport grounds.

Blake Evans, airport manager, urges people to come and take a look. Some of the hangars will be open and the airplanes will be out for viewing. The radio-controlled aircraft club members will also be there to display their planes.

MARWANDA ESTATE

Located at 1203 Bruce County Road 23, the site is accessed off the county road. Described by many as the most "romantic wedding venue in Bruce County, this estate offers a rustic backdrop of an original stone foundation surrounded by lavish gardens, and a 28-acre forest full of trails to explore.

NIMROD GUN CLUB

Located at 2334 Huron-Kinloss Concession 12 (Aintree Road), the Kincardine Nimrod Gun Club was established in 1953 and has evolved into a sporting firearms and archery club. It exists to provide a safe environment to learn, practise, enjoy and compete in various firearms and archery sports.
