Local school bus strike averted
First Student school buses in the Kincardine area were on the road, as normal, Thursday, as a possible strike was averted late Wednesday night.
In an update at 10:38 p.m., May 20, the Student Transportation Service Consortium of Grey-Bruce stated that First Student (Kincardine) and Unifor had ratified, with full acceptance, a labour agreement, allowing the buses to run on their normal schedules Thursday, May 21.
Meanwhile, there is a potential First Student (Owen Sound) school bus strike, beginning May 24 as this group continues to negotiate with Unifor, Ontario’s largest school bus workers’ union. These negotiations are with neither the local school boards nor the Student Transportation Service Consortium of Grey-Bruce.
Any labour disruptions as a result of continuing negotiations will impact First Student school buses servicing the following schools:
- Alexandra Community
- Amabel-Sauble Community
- Bayview Public
- Bruce Peninsula District
- Dufferin Elementary
- Georgian Bay Secondary
- Hepworth Central
