South Bruce OPP report near-collision; alcohol charges; and remind of lock-it or lose-it campaign

DRIVER CHARGED AFTER OFFICER AVOIDS COLLISION
 

(KINCARDINE TWP, ON) – May 18, at 4:12 p.m., a South Bruce OPP officer on patrol along Highway 21 in Kincardine Township, was forced to brake hard to avoid an oncoming Nissan Versa that was passing a line of vehicles. 

The Nissan was stopped and the driver, 35-year-old Sindy HUMPHREY of Lebel Township, was charged with pass when roadway not clear.
 

IMPAIRED DRIVER FACING DAY IN COURT
 

(CARRICK TWP, ON) – May 18, at 8:34 a.m., a member of the OPP traffic unit on patrol along Bruce County Road 3 in Carrick Township, stopped a silver Dodge Journey. 

The officer found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. Twenty-eight-year-old Kyle SORLEY of Kitchener has been charged with operate over-80 milligrams. He is scheduled to appear in court June 29, to answer to the charge. 
 

DRIVER WILL TRY WALKING FOR SEVEN DAYS
 

(ARRAN TWP, ON) – May 16, at 7:20 a.m., a member of the OPP traffic unit on patrol along the Grey-Bruce Line in Arran Township, noticed a white Nissan Murano moving at a high rate of speed. 

The vehicle speed was displayed on radar at more than 130 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. The driver, 34-year-old, Alison BROADFOOT of Sarawak Township, was charged with race a motor vehicle. She is scheduled to appear in court June 16, to answer to the charge.

VEHICLE OWNERS URGED TO LOCK-IT OR LOSE-IT
 

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce OPP is investigating reports of thefts from motor vehicles.
 

  • May 19, at 10:20 a.m., police received a report of the theft of an IPod, cigarettes and loose change from a vehicle that was parked in a Mitchell Street driveway in Teeswater.
  • May 19, at 8:03 a.m., police received a report of the theft of a blue acoustic guitar and two fishing rods from a vehicle that was parked in a driveway on McGivern Street, Walkerton, overnight.
     

The South Bruce OPP is encouraging vehicle owners and operators to follow tips from the Lock-it or Lose-it initiative to help prevent thefts of motor vehicles and thefts from motor vehicles:

 

  • Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the door and pocket the key
  • Never leave your vehicle unattended while its running
  • If you have a garage, use it. Lock the door and the vehicle
  • Never leave your vehicle keys in plain view or easily-accessible
  • Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area
  • Never leave valuable objects in plain view. If you must leave them in the car, keep them out of sight


You work hard to earn your money, so work hard to protect your purchases – lock-it or lose-it.
