Health centre's medical radiation technologists take part in breast-screening education
A group of South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s medical radiation technologists participated in a breast-screening education session in late April to learn techniques to improve image quality, and focus on positive patient experiences.
Dr. Don Taves, lead radiologist for the Breast Assessment Centre at St. Joseph’s Health Care in London, and Yolanda Mundt, mammography technical co-ordinator from St. Joseph’s Health Care in London, were on‐site in Walkerton for a two-day session that included hands-on re‐training and two one‐hour presentations regarding positioning challenges, unique pathology and modifications to current protocols.
Over the course of the program, 35 patients were imaged as part of this learning experience.
The Walkerton hospital is an affiliate site of the Ontario Breast Screening Program through Cancer Care Ontario, a province‐wide, organized breast-screening program that provides high-quality breast-cancer screening.
“We are very proud to be a rural centre of excellence for breast screening,” says Trevor Filsinger, diagnostic imaging and cardio-respiratory manager. “This was a great opportunity for us to sharpen our skills and discuss challenges in the field of breast screening with our colleagues.”
