Monarch butterfly population dramatically increased, says reader
To the Editor:

The Monarch butterfly population has dramatically increased this year.

Some human help, such as leaving milkweed for the larvae to feed on, setting up nurseries for them, and reducing the use of pesticides, may be part of the reason.

Ideal weather conditions may also have played a big part.

Below, are some pictures taken near Boiler Beach Road, showing the Monarchs resting in large numbers.

In a few days they will head south on their migration to the Mexico wintering grounds.
