Ripley Rookie baseball team wins WOBA tournament
The Ripley Rookie baseball team ended its season by winning the Western Ontario Baseball Association (WOBA) Tier 1 Division 2, year-end tournament, held on the Civic Holiday weekend in Mitchell.
In pool play, Ripley was undefeated, facing Exeter, Goderich and Mitchell. The team played Listowel in the semi-finals, Sunday morning, and won 21-7.
Ripley then advanced to the finals, trouncing Saugeen Shores, 25-9.
The players did a tremendous job all weekend, impressing the coaches with their hitting and defence.
There were only a few strike-outs, and the fielding was fantastic with the fielders always ready and communicating with their teammates about how many outs there were, and where the play was with each batter.
It was great to see how far they have all come since the beginning of the season!
Coach Trish Smith appreciated the dedication and commitment of her fellow coaches who played a large role in the year-end success.
“The improvement in each child throughout the season was astounding,” said Smith. “It was a great way to finish out the baseball season!”
