Almost 500 ladies registered for 18th annual Kincardine Women's Triathlon
Almost 500 ladies have registered for the 18
th annual Kincardine Women's Triathlon which runs Saturday, July 14, at Station Beach, Kincardine.
This is a super sprint distance triathlon, consisting of a 375-metre swim, 12-kilometre bike ride, and three-kilometre run. There is also a duathlon, consisting of a three-kilometre run, a 12-kilometre bike ride and a three-kilometre run; and a team triathlon event which follows the format of the triathlon with each team member completing a separate component of the race.
Sanctioned by Triathlon Ontario (
www.triathlonontario.com), the event has 495 athletes registered. The eldest is 71, and the youngest is 16.
The lake temperature must be a minimum of 13 degrees Celsius in order for the swim portion of the race to proceed. Dangerous water conditions, such as excessive wave chop, heavy fog, or lightning, can also lead to the cancellation of the swim. If this occurs, the entire event is run as a duathlon.
Proceeds from the triathlon go to Community Living of Kincardine and District.
The triathlon is made possible by the tireless support of the community including more than 100 volunteers and the generous support of many sponsors. This year, the platinum-level sponsors include Bruce Power, Piller’s, Bludot Protein Tea, Martin’s Bicycle Shop, and Lighthouse Chiropractic. The sold-out event will once again feature a Healthy Lifestyle and Fitness Expo, Friday evening, July 13, from 5-7 p.m., on the race site. The Expo will include an early registration/race kit pick-up for triathlon entrants, a yoga class for race participants, and booths displaying such merchandise as active and sportswear, and cycling and healthy living products.
Residents are reminded that there will be road closures July 14, from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 11 a.m. Roads affected will be Huron Terrace from the Kincardine Harbour south to St. Albert Street; Penetangore Row from St. Albert Street to Bruce Avenue; Bruce Avenue to Goderich Street; all of Goderich Street from the boardwalk to Boiler Beach Road; and Boiler Beach Road south to the 10
th Concession of Huron-Kinloss at Bruce Beach.
Traffic into and out of the harbour and Station Beach will also be restricted from 6 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m. Organizers appreciate everyone for respecting these road closures, the barricades and the volunteers, in order to ensure the safety of all race participants.
