Kincardine residents can stop running taps in their homes
Kincardine residents can finally stop running taps in their homes to prevent frozen waterlines.
In a news release Friday (April 10), chief administrative officer Murray Clarke announced that due to the current and forecasted mild weather, it appears that the imminent threat of water services freezing has passed. Therefore, residents may discontinue running of taps.
Residents have been keeping the water running since mid-February when a notice from the municipality first advised that the depth of frost and continuing cold temperatures were causing water services to freeze.
More than 125 waterlines in Kincardine had to be thawed out by municipal crews. Plus, the watermain along Durham Market South had to be replaced after it froze and then burst.
Council has granted an exemption under the consolidated rates and fees bylaw, for all residential properties, by charging the equivalent of the fixed monthly rates only, from Feb. 1 until now when the risk of frozen waterlines has ended. Affected businesses will also be accommodated.
If you suspect your water service may be freezing or has frozen, call the water department at 519-396-4660, or after hours call the emergency line at 519-396-1511.
