Dear Editor:
RE: "How about a little more 'care' in health care?"
I am thoroughly disgusted with the treatment that Helen (Bullen) received at the Walkerton hospital, Dec. 5!
What if she had no money (who cares?), no coat (who cares?), and lives alone, along with getting the taxi home from Walkerton to the tune of $75, phew! Some people could not afford that price tag!
Who is the person responsible for discharging a lone senior citizen at 3 a.m., sent home in a taxi, with no coat?
Someone should really be taken to task over this issue.
What if a person could not afford the taxi, could not get into her residence, needed assistance of any type? Who cares?!
Our health system is beginning to stink worse than ever - this incident is absolutely horrifying!
I hope there is an explanation somewhere for Helen and her friends.
Thanks,
Joan Hartwick

To the Editor:
Regarding Mrs. (Helen) Bullen's discharge from the Walkerton hospital in the middle of the night, with no coat and the expense of a $75 taxi fare back to Kincardine, I hope that she receives a timely and appropriate response from the hospital administrator as to why this occurred.
It would also seem appropriate that a sincere apology from the administrator be extended to Mrs. Bullen and her caring and compassionate friend(s) who were led to believe that she was left in good hands.
Furthermore, an explanation of hospital policy with regards to this type of situation should also be made public to all the hard-working area residents who tirelessly support, fund-raise, and pay the salaries of health care workers.
Without further explanation, this behaviour appears to have been unacceptable and we must demand clarification and accountability.
I look forward to reading a follow-up statement from the South Bruce Grey Health Centre administrator.![]()
