RE: "Kincardine must enact planning amendment to prevent wanton acts of vandalism, says reader"
Regarding Mr. van de Bospoort’s letter to the editor, I agree completely that the “removal” of these trees is tantamount to vandalism.
One would think that a developer of some (any?) imagination would have found a way to utilize the trees in the building plans. Many developers have a knack for working with what is presented to them. Surely no reasonable potential home purchaser would object to the gorgeous display of colour in the fall, as shown in the photograph accompanying Mr, van de Bospoort’s letter.
How offensive could these maples have been to warrant their deaths? Because let’s call it what it is ... the trees were cut down. The term “removed” sort of sanitizes what actually happened.
It’s sad that this developer didn’t have the creativity or desire to build around these trees. It’s reminiscent of the bully walking along the beach, kicking over sandcastles in his path, instead of walking around them. Sometimes it’s just as easy to step around what’s in our way, and find a creative solution.
It’s sad that these trees are gone forever. They must have been a huge impediment to the building of these homes, to have caused their “removal.” They must have presented a monstrous challenge, an insurmountable obstacle. There must have been no other choice, right?
Wouldn’t it be nice if the developer explained his thought process? That is the reasonable thing to do, and the residents of this subdivision are deserving of it.

Every tree counts to help with climate change, and as you say, trees help, and mature trees more so in the desirability of property.

Imagine if our elected "public servants" actually worked for OUR best interests. (Certainly few can deny the venality and corruption of Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne's Liberals' bizarre actions).
Municipal-level politicians are largely cut from the same cloth.
