(GODERICH, ON) - Nov. 3, Huron County OPP officers, along with volunteers from the Huron-Bruce Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) chapter, were in Goderich to help kick off the annual Project Red Ribbon Campaign.
The group conducted a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check in the town to create awareness and detect potential impaired drivers.
It was great news on both sides. Officers were happy to report that approximately 200 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and everyone was found to be driving soberly.
Project Red Ribbon is an annual awareness campaign to promote sober driving during the holiday season.
"Drivers should expect to see enhanced patrols and RIDE checks during the festive season, says sergeant Russ Nesbitt of the Huron County OPP. "Driving soberly is always the right choice. If you choose to drink or use drugs, call a taxi, phone a friend, stay the night or have some other plan to get home safely. Please do the right thing and drive only if you are sober."
Huron-Bruce MADD recently celebrated its 31st anniversary as a chapter dedicated to the mission of stopping impaired driving and supporting victims of this violent crime.
MADD Canada's red ribbons and car decals are available through the MADD Canada website, chapters and community leaders, and participating sponsor outlets. For more information, visit www.madd.ca.
