The BUILDKD-plus Campaign has surpassed the $1-million mark toward the $4.5-million fund-raising goal to enhance the new Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS).
The milestone was reached thanks to a generous $25,000 partnership donation from the Kincardine Legion which pushed the campaign beyond its first million dollars. To date, the Legion has donated $40,000 in its ongoing partnership with the BUILDKD-plus Campaign.
“As principal of KDSS and chairman of this campaign, I am blown away by the generosity of our community," said Don Burns. "When this community steps up, we all benefit for generations to come. This is about much more than building a school. It's about creating opportunities for students and strengthening our community for decades to come.”
While reaching $1-million is an incredible achievement, the campaign committee recognizes there is still a long way to go toward the $4.5-million goal but believes this community will succeed!
“We have a big goal ahead of us, but the generosity we have already witnessed tells us that this community can do it," said Keith Colley, long-time KDSS teacher and member of the committee. "Every donation, every volunteer hour and every conversation in support, brings us closer to creating something everyone in our area can be proud of.”
The campaign is focused on enhancing the new school beyond provincially-funded construction, with investments in technology and skilled trades, physical education and athletics, arts and performance, and student collaboration and wellness.
The campaign committee extends sincere appreciation to the Kincardine Legion, its growing list of donors, local businesses, industry partners, service clubs, alumni and community members, who continue to demonstrate their commitment to the future of KDSS.

The Kincardine Legion presents a $25,000 donation to the BUILDKD-plus Campaign; the funds include $15,000 from the Legion's share of the Kin Cares 50/50 disbursement, plus $10,000 from the Duelling Pianos event; from left, are KDSS teacher Sydney Hasson, vice-principal Peter Jolliffe, Stacey Robertson who co-ordinated the Duelling Pianos event, Bluewater District School Board trustee Jan Johnstone, Legion president Teri Leslie, KDSS teacher Keith Colley, principal Don Burns, and Legion first vice-president Cathy Alcombrack
