Purple Grove news

Another beautiful week of great weather here and to finish off October, with belated birthday wishes to Margaret Thompson, Christine Heinisch, Gerard Gillespie and Dianne Orr! Hope you all had a great day!

It was fun seeing the Ripley-Huron Community School students on parade in their Halloween costumes, Friday afternoon - there are some great imaginations out there! Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!

Congratulations to Emily and Tyler Rombouts on the safe arrival of their little girl last week, Georgia Edith Ann. Grandparents Dianne and Don Simpson and Tony and Tracey Rombouts are plenty thrilled too!

Oct. 28 was National Chocolate Day - really? Most of us would have any day be a Chocolate Day!

We extend our sympathy to the families and friends of Brenda Stewart and Ron Burrows of Kincardine and to Harold Elphick of Lucknow. Our thoughts are with you as you share memories and celebrate the lives of these special people.

Several of the fair committees have been getting together to rewrite their schedules for next year's Ripley-Huron Fall Fair with the theme, "Hats off to Harvest!" The advance list will be ready sometime in the new year after the annual meeting in January.

4-H members are getting prepared to attend the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair which begins this week. Best wishes to everyone heading to Toronto!

And November is here! Some thoughts to keep ourselves healthy in mind and body - enjoy the sunrises and sunsets, spend time with family and friends, be thankful always, eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, and take care of our neighbours.

Looking forward to our Purple Grove Women's Institute meeting this week at the Ripley-Huron Legion, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m., with Legion president Susan Reeves as our speaker. For more information, contact Bren de Leeuw or Fran Farrell.

Last weekend, the fifth Triple Crown Draft Classic Show was held at the Ancaster Fairgrounds, beginning Friday afternoon. Don Farrington and Andrea Thompson, organizers of the show, are very happy at the growth of this show and report that 22 six-horse hitches - eight Percheron, eight Clydesdale and six Belgian teams were driving in their various classes and finishing in the championship class, Sunday afternoon. In addition to the line and halter classes of each breed, cart classes for youth and ladies and also the two-horse, unicorn, four-horse teams, riding, and charity classes all participated in a fabulous show for the breeders, exhibitors and spectators throughout the weekend! If you are into Facebook, you can see some of the videos of the weekends classes and some beautiful horses that participated in this awesome show at a great facility not too far away from us. Thank you to Don and Andrea for a wonderful weekend for many of our local draft horse breeders and exhibitors!

Have a great week, everyone!
