Harold and Shirley Galloway of Harold's Woodworking and Gift Shop in Ripley have donated $1,000 to the Kincardine Hospital redevelopment and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) project.
The presentation was made Tuesday afternoon, to members of the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation.
Harold raised $500 selling replicas of the Dr. Solomon Secord Monument (right) which he crafted in the wake of the destruction of the monument by the Municipality of Kincardine two years ago. He and Shirley then added another $500 to make the $1,000 donation.
Harold, who just turned 90, said he started the monument project by making a replica for himself to see how it would turn out.
“Then I made a replica of the three pieces of the monument once it was dismantled and lying on the ground," he said. “I have those mounted on a board in my shop, with the following sign, ‘This is what happens if you ignore history rather than learn and educate from it’. I’ve had people in the shop from Kincardine and they don’t know what it is. How can you not know what it is?
“I think the Secord family has every right to go after the Municipality of Kincardine.”
Harold has about 10 replicas remaining and welcomes people to come to the shop, located at 85 Huron Street, Ripley, and purchase one, while supplies last. Cost is $20 each or more, with funds going to the Kincardine Hospital.
