Explore, learn, play with new Discovery Backpacks at Bruce County Public Library

The Bruce County Public Library is introducing a new collection of Discovery Backpacks to help children learn through reading, playing and hands-on exploration.

Designed for children, ages four to nine, these backpacks bring together books and activities on a specific topic in one easy-to-borrow package. Families can borrow a backpack from any library branch for up to three weeks.

Each backpack encourages children to explore a topic in different ways. By combining books with activities, the backpacks make learning fun and engaging while supporting literacy development.

“Discovery Backpacks help kids to learn through reading, creativity and play,” said library services director Brooke McLean. “We have 60 backpacks for families to explore, each with a different theme. It’s a great way to inspire learning, curiosity and conversation at home.”

The collection includes a wide range of themes, reflecting children’s interests and experiences. Some topics include nature, space, grief, diverse families, and fire safety.

The Discovery Backpack collection is possible thanks to the support of a $5,000 grant from Community Foundation Grey Bruce.

Families can explore the collection and reserve a backpack through the on-line catalogue at library.brucecounty.on.ca or visit their local branch to learn more.
