The Municipality of Kincardine continues to work with the Canadian Red Cross, Bruce County, Victim Services Bruce Grey, emergency responders and community partners to support residents displaced by the fire at 915 Huron Terrace, Friday morning.
That's the word from the municipality in a press release, issued Saturday.
Following the evacuation, the municipality opened the Davidson Centre as an emergency reception centre while arrangements were made for temporary accommodations and essential supports.
Through the co-ordinated efforts of community partners, residents were registered and relocated to local hotels throughout the evening, with transportation and food assistance provided. Efforts have also been made to reunite residents with their pets so they can remain together.
HOW THE COMMUNITY CAN HELP
The municipality has received an incredible outpouring of generosity from residents, businesses and community organizations, offering to help those affected by the fire.
If you wish to contribute, the following donation options are available:
Monetary donations
Financial donations are the preferred way to help as they provide greater flexibility to respond to the specific and changing needs of those impacted. Donations can be made through the Victim Services Bruce Grey Compassion in Action Fund to support those affected by the fire.
Clothing donations
The Clothes Hamper located at 732 Queen Street, Kincardine, is accepting donations of clean, gently-used clothing, Saturday until 4 p.m. Do not drop off donations at the Davidson Centre, as donations are being co-ordinated through the locations identified above.
THANK YOU TO THE COMMUNITY
The municipality extends its sincere appreciation to emergency responders, the Canadian Red Cross, Bruce County, Victim Services Bruce Grey, Bruce Power, transportation providers, local hotels, businesses, volunteers and everyone who has stepped forward to help.
"Today has shown the incredible strength and compassion of our community," said Kincardine chief administrative officer Alan Smith. "In a matter of hours, emergency responders, community organizations, businesses and volunteers worked together to help our neighbours during a difficult time. We are grateful for the generosity and teamwork that has made it possible to provide residents with safe accommodations and essential supports.
"Our thoughts remain with the residents affected by the fire, and we thank them for their patience and co-operation throughout the evacuation and relocation process."
While residents have been safely evacuated and temporary accommodations are being arranged, the municipality recognizes that many individuals and families will continue to face challenges in the days ahead. Municipal staff and community partners will continue working together to identify needs and co-ordinate additional assistance.
Further updates will be shared through the municipality's official communication channels.
