The Municipality of Kincardine has opened the Davidson Centre as an evacuation and reception centre, providing a safe space for residents displaced by a structure fire on Huron Terrace in the Town of Kincardine.
In a press release, issued Friday, Kincardine fire chief Guy Gallant states that emergency crews have been responding to the fire since Friday morning, resulting in the evacuation of residents from the affected area. Huron Terrace, between Broadway and Durham Street, was closed but has since been re-opened to traffic.
Gallant states that emergency services are managing the incident, and the municipality is working with response partners to support those impacted by the fire.
"The municipality recognizes that many community members may wish to help those impacted by the fire," states the release. "The immediate priority is ensuring that those displaced have access to a safe place to stay and the supports they need. The public is asked to avoid the affected area to allow emergency crews to respond safely and effectively. Residents wishing to help are asked to wait for further information about specific needs and how they can provide support.
"The municipality appreciates the efforts of emergency responders and community partners who have been working throughout the day to respond to this incident and assist those affected.
"Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available."
