The Bervie Women’s Institute met at the home of Diane Wilson in Kincardine, Wednesday morning, to honour Mildred Griffith with a High Tea on the occasion of her upcoming 100th birthday.
President Bev Berndt welcomed everyone and after the usual openings, Bev gave the land acknowledgement.
The Roll Call, “Show your oldest keepsake/possession,” was answered by nine members and four visitors. Many interesting articles were shown and memories shared of treasured family heirlooms.
Betty Jean White read the minutes of the last meeting and Islay Eby gave the treasurer’s report. The bills were paid. Sandra MacDonald shared the Sunshine Report, and Ellen Waye gave a report of the Grey Bruce Area Convention held last Thursday at Chepstow. Several will attend the Bruce District Rally in Chepstow, Oct. 22.
Everyone sang Happy Birthday to Mildred and enjoyed High Tea which was prepared by Diane and Ellen. Thank you, ladies.
Ellen read “A Century of Grace” and Betty Anne Thompson, president of the Bruce County District W.I., presented Mildred with a certificate, recognizing her 80 years in the Women’s Institute. Mildred also received a dozen red roses from the Bervie W. I. which is also making a donation to the Kincardine Food Bank in her honour.
Special guests were Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario (FWIO) past-president Michelle Phillippi, FWIO area voting delegate Alyssa Phillippi, FWIO Western board director Fran Farrell and Bruce County District past-president Bren de Leeuw.
The meeting closed with the closing ode and the singing of “The King.”
The next meeting will be held Nov. 4 at the Bervie United Church.
