Margaret Henderson, formerly Walkerton and Bruce Beach, dies at the age of 80

Margaret (Marg) Elizabeth Henderson, formerly of Walkerton and Bruce Beach, died peacefully and unexpectedly at home on Gypsy Roseway, Toronto, Sept. 28, 2026, at the age of 80.

Born in Midland, she was the second child and first daughter of Rev. Bill and Peggy Henderson.

She is survived by her brother, John (Dorothy); and predeceased by her beloved brother, Sandy Henderson (Patty) in 2022 and much-cherished sister, Clara Henderson, in 2016.

She was also “Aunt Marg” to seven nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and -nephews. Family togetherness and ties meant a great deal to her.

As a toddler, Marg moved with her family to Walkerton, where she attended elementary and high school, excelling at academics and sports. She finished high school in Woodstock after her family moved there in 1962. Throughout her childhood and youth, she loved Camp Kintail and involvement in the Presbyterian Young Peoples Society.

Marg graduated from Western University in London, and then graduated from teacher’s college. Following seven years of teaching, she accepted a position at the national office of the Presbyterian Church in Canada where she worked for 33 years as an administrator in the department of ministry and church vocations until her retirement. In this position, Marg encouraged and mentored many theology students and received an honourary doctorate from Knox College, nominated by her many friends in the Order of Diaconal Ministries.

Marg had a generous heart, a deep and abiding faith and a special interest in spiritual practices and journalling. She was loyal and kind to many long-time and newly-made friends. She was a regular volunteer at Evangel Hall, Toronto, and spent hours a week working with, and for, her beloved home church, St. Andrew’s Humber heights Presbyterian. She had a deep caring for the rights of women and for refugees and newcomers to Canada, generously offering rides and practical help.

She loved music and singing, dancing, wearing beautiful clothes, meticulously preparing delicious food, theatre and concerts and reflection time at the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine where she was an associate. She especially loved visits to her “happy place” at Bruce Beach on Lake Huron at the family cottage.

Although she had a serious and life-threatening illness in 2022, after her recovery she led an active and engaged life with a zesty attitude. It has been said of Marg that she was not afraid to live because she was not afraid to die.

“Well done, good and faithful servant … enter into the joy of your Lord.” Matthew 25:23

At her request, a simple funeral was held at St. Andrew’s Humber Heights Presbyterian Church, Saturday Oct. 3, 2026, at 3 p.m.

Committal and interment will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m., at South Kinloss Cemetery, 330 Bruce County Road 1, RR, 5 Lucknow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made through Lynett Funeral Home, Toronto, or directly on-line to support female students at Zomba Theological College, Malawi or to Camp Kintail.
