The sun shone on the 163rd annual Ripley-Huron Fall Fair, drawing a great crowd to enjoy a multitude of activities, Saturday.
The morning began with the 4-H beef, sheep and light-horse shows, and then the mammoth parade.
Following the parade, MC Sam Finnie welcomed everyone and noted that the fair once again enjoyed fantastic sunny, hot weather.
Huron-Kinloss mayor Don Murray gave a shout-out to the Ripley Agricultural Society and all the volunteers for another great fair.
Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb also praised the organizers and the many volunteers. "This is really the top fair in all of Ontario," he said. "Everyone comes to the fair and there is strong support for the agricultural community here. Enjoy the fair!"
Lobb then presented a coin collection to Ripley-Huron Fall Fair ambassador Joslynn Curran.
Bev Fry, past-president of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) homecraft division, said she has volunteered for almost 40 years at this wonderful fair, and is proud of the traditions, the 4-H competitions and the exhibits.
"The youth are the seeds of the future and the future of our fair," she said. "We need these traditions to carry on. Thank you to the sponsors and supporters of the fair, and to the community leaders. And especially to the volunteers who are the heart of this celebration.
"I officially declare the 163rd Ripley-Huron Fall Fair open! Enjoy the day!"
The Gordon Patterson award for the most points in three field crops, went to R.G. Harris Farms; the milk award also went to R.G. Harris Farms; the Judy Thompson homecraft award went to Lauralee Veitch; and the junior exhibitor award went to Chloe Walden.
The crowd enjoyed hearing the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band and the Teeswater Highlanders Pipe Band perform in a massed band.

The afternoon activities included the Kinetic Knights Robotics Team demonstration, the car show, laser combat, reptile exhibit, axe-throwing, Snippity the Clown, Paw Patrol and Princess Peach mascots, the Super Dog Show, and FMX Shows, as well as Lucas - the Illusionist, the Worm Wranger, the Poultry Display, and much, much more.
The featured attraction throughout the day, was the International Highland Games Federation's Canadian Amateur Championship heavy events, located in the field west of the Ripley-Huron Community Centre. Athletes were throwing their weight around, including the hammer toss, stone throw and caber toss. Among the athletes, were Ripley's own Conner Dixon and his mother, Amanda Farrell Walsh.
The fall fair ended with live music provided by Bobby Scongack and Adam Cousins.
