West Region OPP net more than $1,000 speeding charges over Labour Day weekend

(LONDON, ON) - Members of the West Region OPP issued more than 1,000 speeding charges during the 2026 Labour Day traffic campaign.

This year's traffic safety education and enforcement campaign targeted the "Big Four" bad driving behaviours: aggressive driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving, and impaired driving. These remain the leading contributing factors to death, injury and property damage on Ontario roads and highways.

The campaign totals are listed below, with 2025 figures in parentheses for comparison.

From Sept. 4-7, officers conducted 2,330 (2,155) traffic stops and laid 2,142 (1,601) charges, including the following featured charges:

  • Speeding - 1,004 (814)

  • Stunt driving - 37 (27)

  • Seatbelt - 172 (123)

  • Distracted driving - 11 (5)

  • Impaired driving - 52 (50)

Below is a detachment-specific chart, outlining the "Big Four" traffic campaign charges.

The West Region OPP thanks drivers who made the right choice to drive safely.

The OPP remains committed to ensuring the safety of Ontario's roads and highways year-round.
