Retired downtown Kincardine businessman, Ken Gannett, dies at the age of 86

Kenneth Allan Gannett of Kincardine died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, at Huron Shores Hospice, at the age of 86.

Beloved husband of Fran, father of Michele Foulds (Matthew) and James Gannett (Hollie), loving grandfather of Sam Foulds, and uncle of Ken and Jay (Lisa) Ridgeway.

Predeceased by his brothers, Don and Harry; and his sister, Lorna.

Ken will be remembered as a very loyal and loving family man, for his sense of humour, and his love of music and sports.

He and Fran owned the Stedman's department store in downtown Kincardine for 21 years. Ken enjoyed talking to friends and customers who came into the store, and loved to make people laugh. He and Fran were involved in their local community of Kincardine, volunteering and supporting local businesses through the BIA and Chamber of Commerce.

Ken was an active member of the Kincardine Summer Music Festival for many years, both as a student and treasurer, as well as a member of many other musical ensembles in Kincardine. He often utilized his strength as a handyman and his artistic ability in his hobbies, which included restoring vintage cars, painting scenic landscapes, and writing poetry.

During the summer, Ken was an avid golfer, liked to play badminton and pickleball, and was an ambassador of pickleball in Ontario.

The family thanks Dr. Thomson, Dr. Ward, Dr. Gunaratne, the South Bruce Grey Health Centre in Kincardine, and Huron Shores Hospice for the wonderful care Ken received.

What is the best thing in life? Laughing!” - Ken Gannett

Visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026, from 5-9 p.m., at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine.

A service celebrating Ken’s life will take place at the Kincardine United Church, Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, at 1 p.m.
