Mary Kathryn (Kathy) McCartney, formerly of Kincardine, died peacefully, July 31, 2026, after a short, but courageous, battle with cancer, at the age of 72.
Kathy was a woman who lived life in her own unique way. She was known for always saying it “as it was,” and that was one of the many things people loved about her. She was genuine, outspoken, funny, and had a way of leaving an impression on everyone she met.
She grew up in Windsor, where she became well-known for her talent and love of roller-skating and dancing. In the 1990s, she moved to Kincardine to be closer to her brother, where she made many wonderful friendships. Over the years, those friends became much more than friends, they became like family.
In her later years, Kathy lived out West with her daughter, Jennifer, and son-in-law, Dan, where she enjoyed life on their hobby farm surrounded by chickens, goats, a horse, and a pig. A true animal-lover, Kathy found great joy in caring for, and being surrounded by, animals. Her beloved cat, Bitsy, held a very special place in her heart.
Kathy will be deeply missed by her son, Scott Miller (Nicole); and her daughter, Jennifer Mayes (Dan); and her cherished grandchildren, Hailey, Breanna, Skyler, Austin (Ceisha), Tanner (Taelor), and Abigail.
She is also survived by her siblings, Terry McCartney (Glenna) and Sandra Gietz (Ken), as well as many extended family members and dear friends who were fortunate to know and love her.
Predeceased by her parents, Marg and Tom McCartney; and her brothers Brian, Gary, and Dennis.
Kathy’s love for animals, her unforgettable personality, her honesty, and her ability to make people laugh, will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the many lives she touched along the way.
