Huron-Kinloss Township residents interested in running for municipal council or school board trustee in the Oct. 26 election, must file their nomination papers with their local municipality by Friday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m.
Eligible candidates can file nomination papers with their local municipal clerk during regular business hours until the Nomination Day deadline. Candidates are encouraged to contact their local municipality or visit their local municipal website for nomination forms, election information, and to schedule an appointment to file their papers.
Candidates should be aware of the following requirements:
Nomination papers must be filed with the applicable municipal clerk by 2 p.m., Nomination Day, Friday, Aug. 21, 2026.
Municipal council candidates must submit Form 2 – Endorsement of Nomination signed by at least 25 eligible voters.
Candidates must be registered before spending money on their campaign or accepting campaign contributions.
A filing fee of $200 for head of council candidates and $100 for all other offices, is required when submitting nomination papers.
Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements to run for municipal office and are encouraged to confirm their eligibility before filing nomination papers. For more information, visit your local municipal election website or contact your municipal clerk.
Following Nomination Day, municipal clerks will review all submitted nominations and will determine whether each candidate meets the qualifications and requirements under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Candidates whose nominations are certified will be eligible to run in the election. Those whose nominations are rejected will be notified.
The 2026 municipal and school board election will take place across all municipalities in the Province of Ontario. Voting in municipalities in Bruce County will be conducted using an Internet and telephone voting system; paper ballots will not be used.
The voting period will open Monday, Oct. 19, and close Monday, Oct. 26, at 8 p.m. Residents are encouraged to vote early.

Huron-Kinloss council consists of the mayor, deputy mayor, and five councillors.
As of Aug. 4, there is a race for mayor between incumbent Don Murray of Lucknow and newcomer Shawn Plante of Point Clark.
Incumbent deputy mayor James Hanna is running for re-election.
Incumbent councillors Shari Flett of Lucknow, Carl Sloetjes of Lucknow, Scott Gibson of Ripley and Ed McGugan of RR 1, Lucknow are running for re-election. Joining them on the roster for councillor, are newcomers Kirk Livingston of Lucknow and Tracy Irwin of Ripley.
Also filing nominations, are Lori Di Castri, incumbent local trustee with the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board; Jan Johnstone of Kincardine, incumbent Bluewater District School Board trustee for Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss; and Eric Lapointe of Barrie, local French-language public district school board trustee.
