Michael Hodgins of Ripley dies at the age of 53

Michael Joseph “Cat” Hodgins of Ripley, died July 28, 2026, at the age of 53 after a brief illness. He spent his final days at Huron Shores Hospice in Tiverton being well cared for and surrounded by family and friends.

He will be missed by his long-time partner, Darlene Richards.

Loved son of Janice and Joe Hodgins. Dear brother of Kelly Lush. Proud uncle of Andie and Jackson who will miss his teasing ways and words of wisdom.

He is survived by his aunts and uncles, Kerry and Wally Houston, Mavis and Doug Thomas, Gayle Bell, Brian and Pam Wylds, and Wayne Benson; and many cousins and friends.

Special thanks to Darlene’s daughter, Stephanie, Mike’s favourite nurse. Mike’s dog, Stitch, will really miss their walks and cuddles together.

Predeceased by his aunt, Lynda Benson.

Michael was very proud of his 20-plus years of service as an electrician at Bruce Power.

Interment, Ripley Cemetery, following a private family funeral service.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, from 1-4 p.m., in the auditorium at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre. Please come in casual attire to help us say goodbye and share memories.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Huron Shores Hospice or the Ripley-Huron Legion, Branch 440, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy; arrangements entrusted to MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley.
