Safe beaches?

Safe beaches?

To the Editor:

According to your story, "Kincardine mayor named chairman of Grey-Bruce board of health," the province has returned control of the health unit to the local board.

A story on CTV London television news, Friday, said that most of the beaches in Huron County, just to the south of us, have been closed because weekly testing showed them to be polluted. The story said no beaches in Bruce County have been closed - but Bruce County beaches are tested only once per month.

The first item of business for the new board, headed by Kincardine mayor Kenneth Craig, should be to bring back weekly testing of our beaches. One wonders what other services the province cut when it took over the health board.

Kincardine has its shiny, new Smart Beach Light to warn of dangerous undertows. It should also ensure that people won’t get sick from swimming in the lake.
