West Region OPP report Canada Day traffic campaign results

(LONDON, ON) - Members of the West Region OPP issued 4,372 charges across 13 detachments during the Canada Day traffic campaign, with most charges for speeding.

The campaign, which ran from June 26 to July 5, highlighted the importance of life-saving equipment, such as seatbelts, helmets and personal flotation devices. Police also focused education and enforcement efforts on discouraging unsafe driving behaviours, such as speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving.

West Region officers conducted 5,097 traffic stops during the campaign.

Meanwhile, province-wide, the OPP issued more than 19,133 traffic and marine charges, including:

  • 8,603 for speeding

  • 1,454 for seatbelts

  • 412 for impaired driving

  • 311 for stunt-driving

  • 243 for distracted driving

  • 49 for helmets

  • 11 for marine safety equipment
