(LONDON, ON) - Members of the West Region OPP issued 4,372 charges across 13 detachments during the Canada Day traffic campaign, with most charges for speeding.
The campaign, which ran from June 26 to July 5, highlighted the importance of life-saving equipment, such as seatbelts, helmets and personal flotation devices. Police also focused education and enforcement efforts on discouraging unsafe driving behaviours, such as speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving.
West Region officers conducted 5,097 traffic stops during the campaign.
The campaign results are below, with 2025 figures in brackets for comparison:
304 (303) charges for failure to wear a seatbelt
Two (zero) charges for failure to wear a helmet (bicycle, motorcycle)
17 (32) personal flotation device charges
39 (31) distracted driving charges
102 (120) impaired driving charges
1,828 (1,568) speeding charges
