(WEST REGION, ON) - As the "Stop. Look. Live." campaign concludes, the OPP is reminding drivers that the importance of safe driving extends far beyond the campaign period.
Throughout the week, officers have worked to raise awareness and address behaviours that contribute to preventable collisions. However, the risks at intersections remain present every day.
"Every life lost on our roads is one too many," says staff-sergeant Julie McLeod of West Region OPP traffic and marine. "These tragedies are preventable, and every driver has a role to play in keeping our roads safe."
Drivers are urged to carry these safety practices forward:
Come to a complete stop at every Stop sign
Look carefully and more than once, before proceeding
Ensure the roadway is clear and safe
Stay focused and avoid all distractions
Taking a few extra seconds at an intersection may not seem significant, but it can make the difference between life and loss, and those few seconds could mean road-users return home safely to their loved ones.
Stop. Look. Live. - Because every life matters, and every decision counts.
