Mike Hunter of Huron Township remembered as an agronomist, farmer, survivor and warrior

Michael Murray Hunter of Huron Township died peacefully, at home, Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the age of 61.

Loving husband of Paulette for 34 years; and amazing father of Brontae (Samuel) and Landon (Brooke).

Dear brother of Kerry-Lynne (Doug) Farrish; and brother-in-law of Danielle (Kirk) Livingston and Chad (Melissa) Lippert. Proud uncle of Brody (Taylor) and their sons - Easton, Maverick and Cannon; Cole (Shawnee), and Keiffer Farrish; Zane (Tayler) and Kloe Livingston; and Crosley and Cormick Lippert.

Survived by his father, Murray (Annetta) Hunter; and parents-in-law, Rod and Elaine Lippert.

Predeceased by his mother, Helen (Donaldson) Hunter; stepmother, Antje (Stahlmann) Hunter; and grandparents, Ralph and Evelene Hunter, and Thirza and David Donaldson.

Mike was an agronomist, farmer and advocate for family farmers. He was a survivor, warrior, the best husband and dad ever, with a cheeky sense of humour. He believed in “go big or go home.”

Despite facing significant health challenges for the past 24 years, he lived his dream of being a father and successfully passing the family-farm torch to his son, Landon.

Always dedicated to his community, Mike was an active contributor to the Soundsation Show Chorus, the Amberley Corn Huskers, the Ripley Agricultural Society, the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority, “The Line in the Dirt" movement, and a leader of the 4-H Sodbusters. He will be greatly missed by his doting co-pilot pup, Oakley.

Cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be held on Father's Day, Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 2-5 p.m., at Pine River United Church.

The funeral will be held Monday, June 22, 2026, at 1 p.m., at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley.

The family extends a very special thank you to Mike's many devoted caregivers, especially Marion Finos (for 23 years), Butsaba Chansuwan (for seven years), mother-in-law, Elaine Lippert, and Aunt Kate Hunter. Deepest gratitude is also extended to the doctors and nurses of the Wingham and District Hospital and University Hospital in London, as well as Bruce County EMS, South Bruce OPP, and the Ripley Volunteer Fire Department. We can never fully express our gratitude for your expertise, professionalism, and diligent care.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Ontario Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (OPWSA) in honour of Mike’s niece, Kloe; the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in honour of his mom, Helen; the Alzheimer Society of Canada in honour of his stepmother, Antje; or the Pine River United Church, a faith community very close to Mike’s heart.
