Huron United earns first win of TMSL season against Suspects FC

The Huron United Football Club notched its first victory of the 2026 Tri-City Men's Soccer League season, May 26, at Spinrite Field in Listowel, defeating Suspects FC by a score of 3-0.

Suspects FC demonstrated an early propensity to attack via high balls through the middle, but Huron United centre-backs Shadi Dahrouj and Chris Coady quickly established air superiority with a series of headed clearances. Huron United’s advantage in the air would prove to be the story of the match.

After holding, midfielder Simon Andonian won a free kick near midfield in the 10th minute. Coady stood over the ball in a position he has been known to score from directly in past seasons. Instead, Coady sailed the free kick toward the top of the box, where striker Jason Leiskau put a glancing header on the ball to direct it around the keeper and give Huron United a 1-0 lead.

Interplay up the left flank between full-back Anderson Wolfe and returning winger Drew Cobean supplied further Huron United threats toward the end of the first half, but no further blood was drawn and Huron United carried a one-goal lead into half-time.

A scrambled start to the second half saw Coady making a huge block on a Suspects fast break, followed rapidly by a near miss off a Suspects free kick. Huron United settled into the half from there, returning to its defensive structure and emphasis on possession.

U21 call-up Aidan Terpstra exerted his influence on the game in the 69th minute of his debut, beating his mark to a loose ball and lofting a cross into the path of a streaking Cobean. Cobean showed no hesitation, striking the ball across his body on his first touch and depositing it into the side netting to increase Huron United's advantage to two.

Shortly thereafter, Coady and the workhorse Leiskau recreated their play from the opening goal - a well-placed free kick from half was met with a deftly flicked header, leaving Cobean in free to poke the ball past the Suspects keeper for a 3-0 Huron United lead in the 78th minute. Huron United’s composed play in the closing sequence preserved the well-earned clean sheet for keeper Josh Coleman.

Man of the Match honours went to Cobean for his brace, with honourable mentions going to Leiskau, Wolfe, and Terpstra.

Huron United is playing out of the Tri-City Men's Soccer League again this season, and the next match is against Red Academy, Tuesday, June 2, at Spinrite Field, Listowel. Huron United’s roster is composed of players from Kincardine, Port Elgin, and surrounding areas, and it is playing under the Saugeen Shores United Football Club.
