Kincardine McHappy Day raises almost $19,000 for Ronald McDonald House
A stalwart crowd braved the cold, windy weather, Wednesday, to support McHappy Day at McDonald’s Restaurant in Kincardine, raising almost $19,000 for Ronald McDonald House.
Local celebrities and volunteers assisted throughout the day, handing out food at the drive-thru, working the counter, and assisting with the activities on the patio.
Organizer Lynn Reilly was thrilled with the turn-out and the final tally of $18,638.41. The money goes to Ronald McDonald House in London which provides a home for families with seriously-ill children who must leave their own homes in order to seek medical treatment.
“Again, thank you to all the people of Kincardine who came and supported this event,” said Reilly, noting that over the past 15 years that she has organized McHappy Day, it has raised about $100,000.
The annual national fund-raiser sees a portion of all sales at McDonald’s on McHappy Day, donated to the charity.
In Kincardine, the event included a spin-the-wheel of prizes, raffle, book sale and merchandise sales.
Once again this year, general manager Rodney Walduck put his hair on the line, sporting a purple afro, and raising more than $6,000 in donations. Thanks to Rachel Mackay of First Impressions who created the colourful hairdo.
The Kincardine and District Lions Club also attended the event and presented a $500 donation.
