Kincardine's Victoria Park Gallery features quilt show, and tribute to quilter Marg Cale
More than a dozen beautifully-crafted quilt pieces by members of the Kincardine Sunset Quilters' Guild, along with a memorial tribute to one of the guild's founding members, Marg Cale, can be found in the guest gallery at the Victoria Park Gallery in downtown Kincardine, throughout the month of May.

The 14 quilt pieces are the product of this year's Past-Presidents' Challenge which was to use the colours of Lake Huron and the beauty of the Bruce in the quilted work.

Anna Morrison and Mary Coates, past-presidents of the guild, said the challenge was presented to the members in September, with the finished pieces, mostly wall-hangings, ready for the show this month.

Among them, are "God's Promise," by Katherine Gowing, Morrison's "Huron Shore," and Coates' "Piping Down the Sun" which incorporates the Kincardine 2028 Reunion logo (used with permission)

In another section of the guest gallery, is a memorial tribute to Marg Cale who died March 31. This display includes wall-hangings, quilts and clothing, as well as knitted socks, that Cale made over the years.

Cale was an incredibly-talented and creative quilter, with multiple quilts appearing in the Quilt Canada Magazine, including one on the cover of the magazine. She taught numerous courses to the members of the Kincardine Sunset Quilters' Guild and challenged them to take their quilting to another level. Her work was easily recognizable because of its creative design, quality and excellent colour choices.

She will be missed by the members of the guild who are pleased to include her work in the quilt show at the gallery this month.

The quilt guild has 114 members, with about 70 attending the monthly meetings, from September to June. The meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at St. Anthony's Parish Hall. The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 13, at 10 a.m., when the guild will be doing traditional quilt blocks.

The group also sews on Mondays at the St. Anthony's hall, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. And there are plans to hold a Quilt Show at Knox Presbyterian Church in Kincardine, July 16-17.

Morrison and Coates held the job of president of the guild for the past two years. And every two years, the guild holds a quilt show in May, organized by the soon-to-be past-presidents. A new president or presidents will be elected in September, for a two-year term.

Victoria Park Gallery is located inside the Kincardine Arts Centre in downtown Kincardine. For more information, check the Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/pg/victoriaparkgallerykincardine/posts/.
