Marilyn Farrell of Walkerton, formerly of Pine River, dies at the age of 77
Marilyn Farrell (nee Thompson) of Walkerton, formerly of Pine River, died peacefully, April 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, in her 78th year.

Beloved wife of Ron Farrell for 55 years.

Devoted mother of Paulette (Kevin) and Dave (Julie), and a proud and cherished grandmother of Scott, Nicolas, Wyatt, Jessica, and Sydney.

Dearly missed by her in-laws, Ken (Glenna) Farrell and Roger (Gail) Farrell; and fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents, Ernie and Mildred Thompson of Pine River; as well as her brother, Murray, and sister-in-law, Janette.

She was raised on an active generational farm near Pine River where she learned the value of hard work at a young age. She cherished growing up alongside neighbouring girls, sharing laughter, simple joys and riding their horse.

In high school, she was an enthusiastic athlete, participating in all sports and playing on the Ripley girls fastball team. After graduating from Grade 13 at Ripley High School, she pursued medical laboratory technology, completing her first year of studies at Chedoke Hospital in Hamilton and her second year of practical training at Stratford General Hospital.

After graduation, Marilyn married the love of her life, Ron, and spent more than 55 years in the Walkerton area where she built a life centred on family, community, and care for others. She dedicated 35 years to her work as a medical laboratory technologist at the Walkerton Hospital. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church and the Walkerton Golf and Curling Club.

She loved playing on the Fidler's Ladies baseball team, as well as curling, and golfing, and was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and PGA Tour. She also had a deep love for animals, especially dogs and horses.

Some of her happiest moments were spent at the family cottage at Bruce Beach along Lake Huron, enjoying summers with loved ones. Above all, Marilyn found her greatest joy at home where she created lasting memories, raising her family and hosting gatherings filled with laughter and love.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The family extends thanks and gratitude to the oncology medical team at Waterloo Regional Health Network, Brightshores Health System in Owen Sound, the South Bruce Grey Health Centre in Walkerton, the Family Health Team and the Ontario Health VON. The family also thanks the staff at Grey Bruce Hospice - Chapman House for taking such amazing care of Marilyn in her final days.

Family and friends are warmly invited to attend a casual, come-and-go celebration of Marilyn’s life, Friday, April 17, 2026, from 2-5 p.m. at the Best Western Plus in Walkerton. A time of remembrance will be held at 3:30 p.m.

In memory of Marilyn, donations to the Walkerton and District Hospital Foundation or Saugeen Hospice would be appreciated by the family. To leave a condolence or to make a donation, visit www.cameronfuneralhomes.com.
