Four new faces take to the stage in Kincardine Theatre Guild's "Wyrd Sisters"
The Kincardine Theatre Guild is welcoming four new actors to the stage in its production of "Wyrd Sisters" which opens at the Kincardine Arts Centre, Friday night, April 24.
These include Patti Kell as Granny Weatherwax, Savannah DeLuca as Magrat Garlick, Aries Rodriguez as the Fool, and Nathan Beer as Tom Jon and a couple of other roles. Also returning to the stage, is Jennifer White as Nanny Ogg.
PATTI KELL
Patti Kell, 72, lives in Kincardine. She moved here eight years ago and works in court support. She has two grown children and four grandchildren.
While she has a background in theatre and music, she hasn't been on stage for a few years. However, when she saw the audition announcement, she thought she would try out.
"I was hoping to be one of the witches or I could do back-stage work," she says. "But then I got the role of the witch, Granny Weatherwax, and I'm so excited. She's a great character to play."
Kell is thrilled to be back in the theatre and says the people at the guild are welcoming and friendly. She would like to continue with the group in a variety of roles.
In her spare time, she enjoys singing and was part of the Kincardine Community Singers for a couple of years. She also likes horse-back riding and has taught therapeutic riding. She has two dogs and two cats.
SAVANNAH DeLUCA
Savannah DeLuca, 18, lives in Kincardine and is in her fifth year at Kincardine District Senior School.
She has performed in KDSS plays and was in the theatre guild's show, "The Pirates of Penzance." This time, she wanted to try out for a major role, and was thrilled to get the part of Magrat Garlick, the youngest of the three witches in the play.
"I was so excited to get this role," she says. "I really like theatre and I love this part. This is a great play and the cast and crew are amazing."
She is working hard to memorize the lines and the blocking on stage.
Savannah plans to attend Randolph College for Fine Arts in Toronto, focusing on stage and film arts. She enjoys drawing and acting.
ARIES RODRIGUEZ
Aries Rodriguez, 24, of Kincardine moved here from Texas last year to be with his wife, Melissa, who is a bus driver. He is a voice-actor and edits a page on You Tube.
He worked on the theatre guild's production of "Into the Woods," and decided to try out for a part in this show. He was excited to get the role of the Fool.
"It's a silly role," he says, "but there's a sarcastic demeanour that I can do very well."
He also has to play the role of a puppet and credits his voice-acting skills with being able to do that successfully.
When he is not busy rehearsing and working, he is learning audio-mixing and video-acting, and he enjoys doing voice-overs on comics and posting them on-line.
He would like to continuing acting with the theatre guild, and learn to control his voice.
NATHAN BEER
Nathan Beer, 30, moved to Kincardine four years ago to work at Bruce Power. He has two dogs and two cats.
He tried out for this show because he was watching "Into the Woods" and decided he would like to be on stage.
"I read for the part of Tom Jon and got it," he says. "That was awesome." He also plays the roles of the Bowman and Guard No. 3.
"I'm a very dramatic person so playing Tom Jon is perfect for me. It's a great character - he's supposed to be the hero of the play but he has no clue about it."
In his spare time, Beer enjoys working out, and playing volleyball.
JENN WHITE
Jenn White of Kincardine is returning to the theatre guild stage after an eight-year hiatus and is excited to take on the role of the third witch, Nanny Ogg.
"My partner, Bruce Fenton, was trying out for a part in the play so I went with him and auditioned and here we are," she says. "This play is wonderful. It's really fun-loving and funny. I'm playing the most powerful witch and it's a delightful part to play."
White is the clerk of Huron-Kinloss Township.
DIRECTOR ANDY WASYLYCIA
Andy Wasylycia is directing his third play for the theatre guild.
"I agreed to take this on because I enjoy insanity, I guess," he says, with a laugh. "The show is written by Terry Pratchett and was on the list for a couple of years from now. However, a Terry Pratchett fan suggested we do it now. I stepped up to the challenge and here we are."
He says it's a bit of a challenge with 20 people in the cast. His previous shows had small casts. He is joined by his wife, Deb Deckert, as stage manager, and he says that helps.
At the end of March, play-polisher Joe Sheik of the Western Ontario Drama League in London, travelled to Kincardine and worked with the cast and crew to take what they had and provide suggestions and opportunities to improve on it.
Also on stage, are:
- Bruce Fenton as Olwyn Vitoller/Bedin
- Stephen McGibney as Duke Leonal Felmet
- Stefanie Hutter as Duchess Lady Felmet
- Casey Martin as the late King Verence
- Jason Geberdt as soldier/Hwel/guard
