Kincardine Legion Corner
This Saturday, Feb. 21, is our New Member Meet and Greet, from 1-2:30 p.m. If you have recently joined our Branch, or plan to, please plan to drop by, meet the executive, other new members, tour around our beautiful building and see why our Branch is so amazing! In case you haven’t heard yet, if you have never been a member before, you can join the Legion for free in 2026. You can do it easily on-line at legion.ca/join-us, and we will also have membership forms available to fill out at the Meet and Greet. Our usual Saturday Meat Draw will follow, so you can even stick around if you wish and try to win a prize.

We continue to make steady progress toward launching the new Kin Cares 50/50 draw. There are several steps involved in getting everything in place, and once they’re complete, we’ll be excited to share the official launch date. We’re very pleased to be working alongside the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation on this initiative. To stay up-to-date, be sure to follow the Kin Cares 50/50 Facebook page, and we’re happy to share that our Kin Cares 50/50 Instagram account is now live as well.

At the Saturday Meat Draw, we had eight different prize winners with no double-dippers. Pirrette Lalonde won the 50/50 draw and took home a cash prize of $218. Congratulations! I think it must be good karma because she is a great follower on our Facebook page, always liking and commenting on our Legion happenings.

Congratulations to all the competitors who participated in last weekend's Branch 183 public speaking contest. Everyone did amazingly well and spoke confidently on a wide range of topics. The judges, officials and audience members were very impressed! The winner of the Grades 4-6 category was Janna. The other participants in this group were Leo, Sophia, Mya, Neema, Zoey, Raya, and Kacey. The winner of the Grades 7-9 category was Everlie. The other participants in this group were Gauri, Easton, Sophia, Olivia, Brook, and Aria. Best wishes to Janna and Everlie at the next level of competition.

The meal before Thursday Night Bingo tonight is Turkey Pot Pie, and next week, Feb. 26, it will be Beef on a Bun. Remember that Bingo card sales start at 5:45 p.m. with the games starting promptly at 6:45 p.m. You can come for dinner even if you don’t plan on staying for Bingo.

March will be here soon and we have tickets on sale now at the Legion bar for our St. Paddy’s Day Celebration, March 14. For the menu, you can choose between Irish stew and Shepherd’s pie, with a dessert of Bailey’s cheesecake or Guinness chocolate cake. Also on sale now are the tickets for The Mudmen at Branch 183, April 25. If you know you are coming, we always appreciate it when people buy their tickets sooner than later, as it helps us plan the events better, especially when there is food involved.

I haven’t mentioned the Walkies Talkies of 183 in a little while. They are a group of active seniors who are always moving and learning. They meet every Friday in the Legion hall, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome, so drop in and find out what this terrific group is all about.
