​Virtue family takes bite out of winter with shark-infested sculpture at Tiverton Winterfest
The Virtue family of Tiverton defended its title by creating the top-prize-winning snow sculpture for the second year in a row at the annual Tiverton Winterfest on the weekend.

Keith Virtue, Terri Allen and eight-year-old Kylin Virtue created a scene of shark-infested water, complete with two sharp-toothed sharks coming out of the snow.

They took the win, followed by Connor Parry and his brother, Ty Mullen, of Tiverton, with a snow replica of Murphy, their brother's autism support dog; and Miranda, Evelyn and Graham Markham of Toronto, with their Snow Toddlers. The Markhams were in Kincardine visiting with Evelyn's grandparents, Brian and Cheryl MacDonald, during the Family Day weekend.

The snow sculpture contest was sponsored by the Tiverton Lions Club which also provided free hot dogs and hot chocolate at the Tiverton Lions Hall, and sponsored the Port Elgin Lions Mega TV Bingo in the evening.

In addition, Saturday featured story time at the Tiverton Library, a Winterfest craft at the Lions Hall courtesy of Kincardine Tourism, and euchre at Knox Presbyterian Church.

Winterfest continued Sunday morning with the worship service at Knox Presbyterian Church, followed by a free chili luncheon at the church, courtesy of the Hutton family.

Lots of people enjoyed the Family Fun Skating Party, Sunday afternoon, at the Tiverton Sports Centre, with free skating, face-painting by Lisa Leyes (sponsored by The King's Pearl), horse-drawn wagon rides (sponsored by the Tiverton Agricultural Society), and free hot dogs and hot chocolate, sponsored by the Tiverton Lions, who served up almost 200 hot dogs.

The festivities ended with a well-attended spaghetti dinner, hosted by the Tiverton Agricultural Society.
