Roads remain closed in Kincardine area as blizzard conditions continue
Blizzard conditions continued in the Kincardine area as Highways 9 and 21, and several Bruce County roads, remained closed Tuesday.

Heavy snowfall, high wind and cold temperatures caused the closure of all Bluewater District School Board schools and offices and Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board schools and offices, for the second day in a row.

Due to the inclement weather and highway closures, some municipal services were closed or delayed:

  • The Kincardine municipal administration centre was closed to the public, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Most staff were working remotely, and residents were encouraged to visit the municipal website or submit inquiries by phone or E-mail, and staff would respond as soon as possible.
  • The Waste Management Centre (landfill) in Armow was open during regular hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bruce Area Solid Waste Recycling (BASWR) collection went ahead as scheduled but crews were running late due to weather conditions.
  • The Davidson Centre was open for drop-in activities. The health club and indoor track were open, but some fitness classes were cancelled.
  • The pool remained closed and programs were cancelled.
  • The Tiverton Sports Centre was closed for all ice rentals in the evening.

Meanwhile, in Huron-Kinloss, the following facilities were closed due to deteriorating weather conditions and road closures:

  • Township Office (21 Queen St., Ripley)
  • Huron Landfill (2087 Concession Rd 6 E, Ripley)
  • Ripley-Huron Community Centre (17 Queen St., Ripley)

These closures were in place for the safety of staff and residents. The township encourages the public to stay safe, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor local road conditions. For municipal emergencies, residents may call 1-866-299-5199. For current road closure information, visit: www.brucecounty.on.ca/road-conditions.

As of 10 p.m., Tuesday, the following roads remain closed:

  • Highway 21, from Amberley to Port Elgin
  • Highway 9, from Kincardine to Bruce County Road 1
  • Bruce County Road 1, from Highway 9 to Paisley
  • Bruce County Road 3, from Highway 9 to Paisley
  • Bruce County Road 4, from Wingham to Teeswater

For those who decide to travel, keep your headlights and tail-lights on and clear of snow and do not drive on a closed road.

Remember to keep your speed down, “If you see snow, go slow”.

For up-to-date road/weather information, visit: www.brucecounty.on.ca/road-conditions.php or call Bruce County Roads at 1-866–266-7569, option “2”. For Ontario highways – visit 511on.ca.”

The forecast calls for still more blowing and drifting snow and cold temperatures.
