Blizzard conditions, with heavy snow and high wind, slammed into the Kincardine area Monday, causing the closure of schools, roads and facilities.

All Bluewater District School Board schools and offices were closed by 7 a.m., as well as Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board schools and offices.

By 11 a.m., the Kincardine municipal administration centre was closed due to forecasted or observed inclement weather conditions.

Other Kincardine facilities were also closed through the day:

  • The Waste Management Centre (landfill) at 437 Sideroad 15, Armow closed at 3 p.m.
  • The Underwood Community Centre satellite office at 1240 Concession 6, Tiverton, closed at 11 a.m.
  • The Davidson Centre pool closed at 7 p.m., along with the cancellation of aquafit class and lane swims.

The Davidson Centre remained open for regularly-scheduled programs, with staff monitoring the weather and providing updates about program closures via Facebook and the Service Interruptions web page.

As of 6 p.m., Bruce County Road 4, from Teeswater to Wingham, was also closed. And at 7:47 p.m., Bruce County Road 1, from Highway 9 to Paisley, was also closed.

For those who decide to travel, keep your headlights and tail-lights on and clear of snow and do not drive on a closed road.
