KDSS co-op students showcase their placements at job fair
Students in the co-operative education (co-op) program at Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS) showcased what they had learned at their work placements, during the job fair held Monday (Jan. 12), in the school library.
The event featured numerous displays of the placements, and the skills the students had gained throughout the past semester in the program.
Abi Palmer, Grade 12, wants to become a paramedic and thoroughly enjoyed her placement with Bruce County Paramedic Services.
Much to the delight of staff and students, she used her knowledge to take the vital signs and an electrocardiogram (ECG) of a couple of teachers and principal Don Burns.
"I'm glad I had this co-op placement," she said. "I plan to go to college at Fanshawe, Lambton or Conestoga for this."
Emily Mann, Grade 11, and Emily Goetz, Grade 12, were teachers' assistants at KDSS, in elementary and secondary, respectively. Both enjoyed the experience, but Emily Mann wants to become a funeral director, and Emily Goetz wants to become a psychoanalyst.
Sophie Rock, Grade 12, plans to become a Registered Nurse (RN) so her placement at the Kincardine Hospital was a perfect fit.
"This is what I want to do," she said, "so it was great working with the nurses at the hospital."
She has been accepted at Brock University in the RN program.
Kolby Knoop, a fifth-year student, wants to become an ultrasound technician so her placement was in the diagnostic imaging department at the Kincardine Hospital.
"It was a great experience," she said. "This is definitely what I want to do."
KDSS co-op education teacher Amy Snobelen says there were 45 students involved in the co-op program this semester, with about 70 signed up for next semester.
