Bruce Power and supplier partners donate $335,000 to local holiday initiatives
Bruce Power and its supplier partners are celebrating Giving Tuesday by donating $335,000 to local holiday initiatives across Bruce, Grey and Huron counties.
The company, in partnership with its employees, suppliers, the United Way of Bruce Grey and the community at large, raised more than $60,000 in support of more than 20 local toy drives and hamper programs. An additional $2,000 is being donated to each of 38 local food banks to help offset the increasing impact of food insecurity.
Community meal programs in Kincardine, Port Elgin, Walkerton, Hanover, Chesley, and Owen Sound will also receive a combined $50,000 to help feed those less fortunate, while an additional $50,000 is being shared among the Safe n Sound drop-in centre in Owen Sound, the YMCA’s Emergency Shelter Program in Bruce County, and SOS Grey County, to assist with their housing insecurity initiatives.
Bruce Power also received assistance from local schools and women’s shelters to distribute $60,000 in grocery store gift cards to local families.
In addition, $40,000 in new warm winter clothing was donated to Bruce Grey Child and Family Services, Huron-Perth Children’s Aid, Saugeen First Nation and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, to distribute to local families.
“There are growing challenges in our communities, making this time of year even more difficult for so many in Bruce, Grey and Huron,” said Maggie Tieman, Bruce Power’s director of community and external affairs. “We are very thankful for the support of our supplier partners, employees and our community for helping make the holiday season brighter for our families across the region.”
