Huron-Kinloss lowers flags in memory of first Arran-Elderslie deputy mayor
Huron-Kinloss Township has lowered its flags to half-mast in memory of
Arran-Elderslie’s first deputy mayor, Mark Davis (above), who died Friday (Aug. 22) at the age of 68.
"He was a Bruce County boy through and through and loved Big Bruce," said Huron-Kinloss mayor Don Murray. "He was a friend, a leader and someone who always worked to make Bruce County a better place for everyone.”
Murray extends condolences to Davis' family, friends and the community of Arran-Elderslie.
Arran-Elderslie flags are also flying at half-mast in recognition of Davis’ lasting contributions.
Born and raised in Elderslie Township, Davis dedicated his life to serving the people of this municipality. His public service began as a councillor for the former Township of Elderslie.
In 1999, he became the first deputy mayor of the newly-amalgamated Municipality of Arran-Elderslie. He continued to serve with distinction as councillor for Elderslie Ward in 2004 and 2006, and as deputy mayor in 2010, 2014, and 2018 when he also served as chairman of the local recreation committee and chairman of the building committee for the new municipal office.
Known for his thoughtful leadership and genuine care for residents, Davis was always ready to listen and advocate for what mattered most to the people of the municipality. Arran-Elderslie extends its heartfelt appreciation for his decades of service and the meaningful legacy he leaves behind.
