SVCA issues flood watch and water safety statement
The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) has issued a flood watch and water safety statement.

Throughout the Saugeen Watershed, above-seasonal temperatures between Friday and Sunday, combined with rainfall, have led to a nearly complete loss of the snowpack and significant run-off into watercourses. While small watercourses have peaked, they remain elevated and continue to spill into nearby low-lying rivers.

The main Saugeen River continues to increase and is expected to peak later Monday (March 17). For the Municipalities of Arran-Elderslie and Brockton, the main Saugeen River is currently elevated and is anticipated to continue to rise throughout the day. Residents are advised that several roadways and bridges in this area are closed due to over-topping or unsafe conditions. Refer to communication from the municipalities and Bruce County for more information.

Residents are reminded not to attempt to drive or walk through flooded areas. Conditions can change rapidly, and access routes can be cut off quickly. Watercourses will continue to present a significant hazard throughout the week ahead.

The flood watch statement for the Municipalities of Brockton and Arran-Elderslie does not require the municipalities to implement their emergency response plans. Municipal staff throughout the SVCA watershed are advised to continue monitoring infrastructure for blockages until water levels significantly recede.

Both the water safety statement and the flood watch statement will remain in effect until Friday, March 21, at 4 p.m. SVCA staff will continue to monitor watershed conditions and will provide an update if conditions change.
