Dancing With the Stars marks five years of fund-raising for Big Brothers, Big Sisters
October 12, 2024
Dancing With the Stars, the highly-anticipated, black-tie, fund-raising gala in support of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of South Bruce North Huron, is returning for its fifth year, Saturday, Nov. 2.
The event is an exciting and entertaining night of ballroom-dancing competition that raises funds to support youth in the community through the life-changing benefits of one-on-one mentoring.
The contest pairs seasoned dancers with community "celebrities" who have little or no dance experience. After training together for months, the dance pairs will perform two ballroom-dancing routines that showcase their growth and skill, in front of a live audience at the Kincardine Pavilion. The event is also live-streamed for viewers to enjoy at home.
“Last year’s gala was an amazing success, raising more than $37,000 which went directly to the creation and delivery of programs for young people in our communities,” said Linda Johnson, team lead for Dancing With the Stars and president of the board for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of South Bruce North Huron.
This year, organizers hope to surpass that amount with an ambitious fund-raising goal of $40,000.
There are almost 100 youth participating in the agency’s mentoring programs, with 48 on a wait-list to access services.
“The proceeds from Dancing With the Stars will go toward recruiting more mentors and supporting the vital programs that Big Brothers and Big Sisters provides for young people in all of the communities that we serve,” said Johnson.
The ballroom-dancing competition will feature the following six dance pairs – the first name is the celebrity, followed by the seasoned dancer:
- Tamis Rackley and Victor Scaletchi
- Carolyn Hart and Bryan Shelley
- Andy Laya and Carmen Coburn
- Leyla Gonzales and Blayne Hussey
- Braden Prasad and Rachel MacKay
- Don Andrew and Jeanette Schinker
In-person attendees will enjoy a catered roast beef dinner by chef Alex Lussier of West Coast Catering and George’s on Harbour, served at 5:30 p.m., with doors to the event opening at 4:30 p.m.
All ticket holders will have the opportunity to buy raffle tickets to win a beautiful ruby earring and ring set, valued at $2,000, from Gemini Jewellers.
In-person tickets are almost sold out but live-stream tickets are still available at www.ticketscene.ca/events/48775.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of this glamorous evening while making a meaningful impact on the lives of local youth.
