Congratulations to the Tiverton Agricultural Society for another great weekend of fair fun! And Pumpkinfest was on too in Port Elgin!
Now open for the month of October, you can enjoy sourcing out your very own pumpkin at Farrells Pick Your Own, located on the 12th Concession in Huron-Kinloss Township. The weather is perfect and it’s a great way to enjoy some family fun with your family. Fall is certainly in the air!
The Bruce County Federation of Agricultural annual meeting was held Friday evening at the Tara Legion. Chris Cossitt returns as president for another term, John Gillespie as first vice-president, and Robert Rodgers as second vice-president. There are openings for township representatives for all areas. This organization works on behalf of farmers regarding many current issues and builds relationships with government and the media. The top three issues this year were taxation - especially carbon and capital gains; rural infrastructure - includes affordable energy, Internet, roads and bridges and health care accessibility; and encouraging consumers to buy local food and support local businesses. The federation also supports and sponsors the Roots of Bruce, Grown in Grey, Saugeen Valley Children's Safety Village at Hanover and Farm Safety Days held in the summer. Happy Birthday to Allan Smith who is just 83, Bruce Aitken, Brian Johnston, Angela Devitt, Dayna Van Dyke, Julia Harris who is two; and we welcome to our community Ruth Shirley Harris, born Sept. 11, daughter of Serena and Ryley Harris!
Friends and relatives enjoyed a 90th birthday party for Shirley Gilders at Clinton recently.
Congratulations to Daniel Martin and Madison Merkley who were married Saturday, Oct. 5, in Formosa on a beautiful fall day!
A very Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary to Lloyd and Shirley Kuntz who were married Oct. 5 in Formosa! Anniversary wishes also to Tyler and Dayna Van Dyke and Brenda and Harvey de Leeuw.
Some local folks were able to attend the performance of "Come From Away" in Toronto last Thursday. It was fabulous! Thank you to Marlin Travel and Diane Bowley for setting that up!
It was Fire Prevention Week, with an open house at the Ripley fire station, Tuesday evening, and one at the Lucknow fire station, Wednesday evening. Both were well-attended. We are reminded to check our smoke alarms and do all that's required to ensure fire safety in our homes. A huge thank you to all the firefighters involved in these events.
