Kincardine needs lots of improvements, say readers
RE: “The wheels are coming off”
To the Editor:
I certainly agree with Eric Howald on all counts!
Wheels missing from the cannons in Victoria Park? Does no one care? Fountain does not work, pieces found in the dump?
We do not need more walkways, we need some trees removed, the big ones that give way too much shade, but replaced with young trees!
And the gazebo is not a bike track, like the young teens thought the night of the meeting! Ride up the steps, do a couple of rounds and ride back off! Really? Would they do that on their parents’ decks or the enclosure around their family pool?
New staff, and employees in the municipal offices, and the history of Kincardine means nothing to them! How many employees of the municipality actually live in the municipality?
AND no flower beds this year? Growing grass instead!
Washrooms closed at 8 p.m., if they are actually open at all. Is there any reason why port-a-johns could not be put along the beach? No need for anyone to have to run from the harbour to the washrooms at the turn-around? It did happen! Washrooms closed at Dunsmoor Park at 8 p.m.?
There is certainly lots of room for improvement in Kincardine!
It is going down the tubes pretty fast!

Thanks Eric (Howald) for a common sense, sensible opinion which seems to be a thing of the past.

Yes, Victoria Park needs some attention.
The current red sidewalk needs to be finished to Princes Street, north and south, and a connection to Russell Street, north and south, not up the centreline of Russell Street.
The red sidewalk could be widened on both sides for market vending on Mondays.
The rotten wooden bollards on Durham Market North need to be removed as they are in the way. Making for angle parking that is not on the other two sides of the park.
The Municipality of Kincardine has probably invested $3-million or more in washrooms in the town:
- Old fire hall
- Station Beach
- Baseball field by the dog park
- Dunsmoor Park
- Connaught Park
All of these are open this year from May 17 to maybe the middle of October. Come on, open the washrooms year-round. If we need more, rent them.
As far as the wheels coming off the cannons, make new ones and it’s called maintenance.
Each time the municipality hires consultants who come here from wherever, they miss the mark completely. It may be that they are not aware of our municipality by coming here for a day.
I have many over low-cost improvements that I could add, such as a paint job to improve the appearance of structures within the park. Don’t give the paint brush to the person who painted the floor in the men’s washroom in the old fire hall. The results show that person doesn’t like to paint.
