Open house set for April 13 at Somerhill Golf Club
Spring is here and it’s almost golf season, and that means Somerhill Golf Club will soon be open.
The nine-hole course, located on Highway 21 between Kincardine and Tiverton, is hosting an open house Saturday, April 13, from 2-4 p.m., and owner/superintendent Brad Mackay welcomes everyone to come and check out the greens, purchase a membership and enjoy some refreshments.
Somerhill is a popular course with tourists and residents, alike. The nine holes lie in a scenic, rolling terrain on the shores of Lake Huron, and you are treated to some wonderful views during your round. The plush fairways and greens are always in excellent condition.
From the championship tees, the course measures 5,700 yards, long enough to challenge the best golfers. The large number of water hazards in play throughout the course make it uniquely-challenging, meaning you can never afford to sit back and lose focus.
Somerhill has a licensed clubhouse, small banquet facility, carts, membership fees, and a putting range. There are tournaments and special events, as well as league play, including Tuesday Men’s Night, Thursday Ladies’ Day, and Wednesday for E.S. Fox.
The course offers special deals, such as a 13-pack – purchase 10 greens fees and get 13.
Joining Mackay, are eight employees, including chef Jayne McGibney. His parents, Allan and Kathy Mackay, also help out, adding their expertise from owning and operating Ainsdale Golf Course for many years.
Mackay plans to open Somerhill as soon as Mother Nature co-operates, which he hopes is by mid-April.
