Kincardine Hindus enjoyed peaceful spiritual practices on the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, held Saturday, Sept. 5, in Kincardine.
Chandra Tripathi, one of the organizers, says the event is similar to when Christians celebrate Jesus' birthday at Christmas time. "All Hindu celebrate and rejuvenate themselves with positive energy at this time."
Five thousands years ago, Sri Krishna, the embodiment of bliss and peace, incarnated in Vrindavan, India, on the 8th day of the dark half of the month of Bhadrapada (August-September), says Tripathi. His body pervades the entire cosmos. Krishna has lived a balanced life and played various roles in the world. He exhibited miraculous powers even as a child and killed many demons. He taught the supreme Truth of Yoga, Bhakti (devotion), Vedanta, and how to perform duty by selfless Karams to Arjuna through Gita, and Uddhava through Shrimad Bhagavat.
In the Gita, Lord Krishna states that whenever the essence of humanity is under attack, He will appear to help re-establish faith in mankind and create order in the universe.
The main purpose of this celebration was to perform spiritual practices (sadhana) to attain deep rest. Where there is no restlessness, worry or desire in the mind, one is able to get deep rest, and it is in deep rest that Krishna (symbol of love and peace) is born. So the true Janmashtami will take place when the Lord appears in our hearts with love, care, protection and happiness.
