Verna Munro says that being raised a farm girl, as well as hard work and clean living, are what she credits for having enjoyed such a long and happy life.
The resident of Tiverton Park Manor celebrated her 102nd birthday, complete with a lovely birthday cake, Friday afternoon, surrounded by her friends and the residents and staff at the manor.
She was also greeted by Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie who brought best wishes from the municipality.
Mrs. Munro was born Sept. 10, 1913, and grew up on a farm on Concession 2, Sideroad 15, in Bruce Township, raising horses and riding bareback. Her son, Denis, still lives on the family farm. She also has a daughter, Cheryl Anne.
She lived in Tiverton for many years, and moved to the manor in August, 2007. She enjoys playing euchre every Thursday and whenever she can get a group together. She also likes doing word-search puzzles.
Turning 102 doesn't feel a whole lot different than when she was 101, she says. Her family was gathering Saturday to celebrate her birthday.
