Kincardine Regional Silver Stick cancelled, due to COVID-19
If you were hoping to watch some high-quality minor hockey this week, you will be disappointed to learn that the Kincardine Regional Silver Stick tournament has been cancelled, due to the continuing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
Slated for the Davidson Centre and the Tiverton Sports Centre, from Dec. 27-30, the official cancellation was announced Sunday by the event committee.
“After careful consideration, the Kincardine Regional Silver Stick Committee has decided to cancel our tournament for the 2021-22 season,” stated the announcement. “The health and safety of all our participants has always been, and will continue to be, the top priority and we are hopeful that we will be able to return in the New Year for the second half of the season and a successful playoff run for all minor hockey participants.”
This week’s tournament was set to feature the Kincardine Peewee Kinucks in the Under-13 “B” division against six teams; and the Huron-Bruce (Ripley and Lucknow) Peewee Blizzard in the Under-13 “C” division against eight teams.
The Kincardine Bantam Kinucks were set to face eight teams in the Under-15 “B” division, while the Huron-Bruce Bantam Blizzard was set to face 14 teams in the Under-15 “C” division.
Last year’s Kincardine Regional Silver Stick tournament was postponed because of the pandemic.
