Sundown Theatre's "Tuesdays and Sundays" is compelling, chilling tale of love and respectability
If you live in a Disney world where love conquers all, you will be surprised by the Sundown Theatre's production of "Tuesdays and Sundays," with its compelling, chilling statement on love and respectability.

Everything about this show is brilliant - the acting, staging, lighting.

Mariel Marshall is Mary, opposite Matthew Power as William, who race onto the stage in breathless anticipation of what is about to take place, and pull the audience right along with them.

Using a pedantic, third-person presentation, the narrative is captivating, right from the moment William and Mary find themselves in a void in the opening scene, through the reminiscing of how they met and fell in love, to the chilling moment when respectability trumped responsibility and all was lost. The play is based on a true story from rural Margate, Prince Edward Island, in the 1880s.

The stage is remarkable, set as a theatre-in-the-round with the audience seated all around the action, while the actors climb the rafters of the barn. It is an intimate setting in the old and historic Mahood lumber sheds which have been beautifully transformed into a magical performance space for this show.

Praise goes to director Clare Preuss, stage manager and lighting director Michelle Ramsay, and costume designer Lindsay Woods for making this story come alive.

Joining the two actors, are members of the Young Company, Aibhlin (Avy) Mowle as Emily, Robyn Mercanti as Alice, and Maia Hinchberger as Beatrice. There is also pre-show entertainment by Thales and Sappho Hunter of Kincardine.

"Tuesdays and Sundays," written by Daniel Arnold and Medina Hahn, opened Wednesday, and continues Aug. 17, 18, 20 and 21 at 8 p.m., Aug. 22 at 9 p.m. (after the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band parade), and Aug. 23 (closing night) at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $22 each for adults, and $18 each for youth under age 18; available through the website: www.sundowntheatre.ca

Enbridge is the presenting sponsor for this show.
